PROPOSED Basketball Court/Ice Skating Rink

The Kiwanis Club of Polk City is working with the City of Polk City, the Polk City Chamber of Commerce, the Polk City Women's Club and other community groups toward implementing a community-based capital campaign with the goal of building a second basketball court at Kiwanis Park, in Polk City, that would also serve as an ice skating rink. We have requested some of the funding needed from the City of Polk City's Parks' Commission, as well as begun applying for community-directed grants for additional funds. We will begin our capital campaign to raise the rest of the funds needed to build the project from the residents and businesses of Polk City sometime after mid-April, 2015. Our goal is to complete the fundraising needed by the end of 2015. We have established a Greater Des Moines Community Foundation fund, "Kiwanis Club of Polk City Community Projects Fund," in which people can contribute donations which would then be tax deductible; a great way to help expand Kiwanis Park to increase recreational opportunities for our residents, and at the same time, provide a tax benefit. We look forward to working with the community as we expand our opportunities in the "City of Four Seasons!"

North Polk United Soccer Assists Kiwanis Club of Polk City

North Polk United Soccer coaches helped sell Kiwanis Club of Polk City Pasta Dinner tickets. At least 18 coaches sold 149 tickets. Another 17 people came into the dinner reporting they heard about the dinner through the soccer club. Therefore, North Polk United Soccer received credit for selling 166 tickets valued at $874. The coaches knew that the soccer club would receive 20% of the money raised from their sales, which amounted to $175. The soccer club plans to use those extra funds for soccer nets, goals and line painting. The Kiwanis Club of Polk City thanks the North Polk United Soccer Club for their "assist" on the Kiwanis Pasta Dinner "goal". We look forward to doing this again next year!
